Surprise Visit May 29, 2007

Filed under: Leopard, wildlife — blueflute @ 4:17 am

A man from South Israel got a wake up call from an uninvited guest. A leopard entered through an open window and crawled in bed with the man, his pet cat and his daughter. He wrestled the leopard for 20 minutes until park rangers arrived. Too cozy for me.

Creation, Evolution? May 27, 2007

Every culture has their own stories on how the world began and in Petersburg, Ky a new museum is opening on Memorial day with a twist. Dinosaurs existed the same time as Adam and Eve.                                      dino

Set up in animatronic exhibits like Universal Studios, it holds to the belief that God created dinosaurs on the 6th day along with all the other animals and man, and that the earth is only 6000+  years old unlike what science claims that dinosaurs existed millions of years before man showed up.

Filed under: anniversary, star wars — blueflute @ 7:40 pm

This Memorial weekend marks the 30th anniversary of movie Star Wars. Celebrations started with a 17 hour marathon of all 6 movies.  I remember when Star Wars first came out in 1977.  The visual effects were awesome, never before seen. Look how far movies have come. Got to love those wookies.

Toothpaste Warning May 24, 2007

Filed under: China, Import, Tainted, Warnings, diethylene glycol, toothpaste — blueflute @ 3:37 am

toothpaste A lethal chemical called diethylene glycol (an engine coolant) was found in recent shipments of tooth paste from China to the countries of the Dominican Republic, Panama and Australia. So far the FDA is not saying what brands are involved, Crest and Colgate do not import from China. So far none of the tainted toothpaste has shown up here. It would be a good idea to start reading labels and not purchase any toothpaste imported from China.

Fish Tale May 22, 2007

Filed under: ancient, fish — blueflute @ 3:51 pm

In Indonesia, in the sea off North Sulawesi Province, a fisherman caught a rare ancient fish, the coelacanth, once thought to be extinct during the time of the dinosaurs.

First seen in 1938 and again in 1998, their habitat is about 60 metres  or 200 ft below the sea.

Coelacanths are the only living animal to have a fully functioning intercranial joint. Which means their ear and brain are separate from the nasal and eyes.

It’s the little things May 19, 2007

Filed under: Life — blueflute @ 10:58 pm

Too often in this busy world, we fail to appreciate the little things, and to stop and take notice. Fireflies on a warm night, little flowers blooming in the grass, butterflies in search of food, birds gathering bit of grass and string for their nests, a smile from a stranger as you pass by.

Take a minute to look around you. There is on much more to life than computers and cell phones. Look for the positive in everything. Take time to enjoy life’s little treasures.

Aluminum as fuel May 18, 2007

Filed under: Aluminum, Fuel alternatives, fuel, hydrogen — blueflute @ 4:55 pm

A researcher is working on a new fuel alternative. Aluminum. While the idea has potential it’s not a renewable source. Aluminum pellets mixed with gallium pellets when exposed to water gives off pure hydrogen. While it sounds like a good thing it’s not renewable. Once its gone…. its gone. Which means things that where once made with aluminum like cans, will have to be made with something else. We are already depleting the earth enough as it is. I think another alternative needs to be found that is a renewable source.

Stacy Rajas was a 34 year old teacher who was expecting her first child. Six months into her pregnancy she suffered a brain aneurysm, and went into a coma. She was declared brain dead the next day. The doctors kept her alive to carry the baby she wanted. On May 11, 2007, 3pound 3 ounce Zoe Sofia was born by ceacarean. Her mom was taken off life support 48 hours later, and her vital organs donated.
